WHO IS THIS WEBSITE FOR?

Screen Smart Counseling was created for mental health professionals to expand their clinical outreach with the adolescent population, now known as Generation Z.

A secondary audience of parents of Generation Z was also in mind to assist adolescents’ real front-line workers in combating the day to day social stressors of social media.

There is, of course, the tertiary audience of Generation Z themselves, to aid in the

healthy development of their

online/offline identities.

WHERE CAN I USE THIS WEBSITE?

Anywhere!

It is accessible on desktops, chrome books, iPads, and mobile phones. For clinicians, the hope is that you will use these resources, particularly the intervention pages, in session with adolescents as part of your established treatment modalities. Have them access the website on their phones (we know they have them!) and use the

interactive tools to foster collaboration

towards treatment goals.

WHAT DO I DO WITH THIS WEBSITE?

You explore!

Learn what you may not already know and share insights of what you do know to enrich the experiences of others in the comment sections.

Use this website as a tool to spark conversation with adolescents and as a means of digging deeper therapeutically.

WHY THIS WEBSITE?

Technology and social media are not fading nor going away— they are strengthening in power and numbers and being used for more distinctive and unique purposes every day. I certainly can’t keep up! But I make the effort to try.

Each day I try my best to assess social media’s impact on myself and on those I work with, while remembering my purpose as a social worker, as a parent, and as a productive and responsible citizen online and offline.

Who Am I?

My name is Dr. Kristin Biri and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and a Certified School Social Worker. I specialize in working with children and adolescents with mood and behavioral disorders. My passion has been exploring technology and social media's impact on adolescent and young adult identity development and interpersonal relationships. My goal is to continue to acquire specialized knowledge in clinical leadership and innovative approaches to therapy using technology and social media.
